University of Texas at Austin, B.A. 1994
University of Texas Health Science Center, M.D. 1998

Personal
A native of Lubbock, TX, Dr. Michael V. Seger attended college at The University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in zoology. Upon graduation, he moved south to San Antonio to attend medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center. It was here that he met and married his wife, Jennifer.

After Dr. Seger’s completion of medical school, the couple moved to Lubbock, where he completed residency training at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. During residency, the Seger family was blessed with the addition of three children.

In 2003, the family moved to Houston, and Dr. Seger finished an advanced laparoscopic fellowship at the University of Texas under the guidance of Philip L. Leggett, M.D.

In July of 2004, the Seger family moved back to San Antonio to join Surgical Consultants of San Antonio. Dr. Seger was thrilled to join this exceptional group of surgeons.

Dr. Seger performs a broad array of general surgery. His special interest lies in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy. He is able to perform complex abdominal surgery using very small incisions and a camera, and Dr. Seger uses this technique to complete operations on the stomach, colon, intestine, spleen, kidney, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, and adrenal glands. By using these minimally invasive techniques, patients now experience less pain and can return to their normal activities much sooner than with the traditional open surgery.

Dr. Seger has presented articles at national and international meetings on laparoscopic surgery. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, Bexar County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.
